Obituary for Dora Benson

On July 3, 1944 at 3126 Champa Street in Denver, Colorado, the Lord blessed us with Dora Margaret Osborne. She is the fourth of seven children to the union of Collie D. and Lila G. Osborne.

Dora grew up in a loving home and very close to her siblings. She was a smart, quiet child with a serious demeanor. She was known to be athletic, and could chase down kids in the neighborhood that got on her bad side. She was not one to be messed with.

While attending Gilpin Elementary and Cole Jr. High she met lifelong friends Beverly Green, Donna Powell, and Evelyn Tunson. After graduating from Manual High School, Dora pursued a career in nursing. She received an LPN from Emily Griffith College in Denver Co., an RN from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and her Bachelor of Science Degree from Regis College in Denver, Co.

Dora met and later married the late Howard Suarez and together they raised their son, Victor. Her marriage lead her to travel to Panama City, Panama and Newark, New Jersey before settling down in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was in Las Vegas that Dora was called to Cornerstone Church of God in Christ and devoted her life to the Lord. After returning home to Denver, Co., Dora joined her parents at Campbell Memorial Church of God in Christ where she remained a faithful member for over 30 years.

After retiring from nursing, Dora had the gift of giving so she founded Lila Osborne Memorial to give back to the community. She loved dogs and often adopted pets needing special care. She loved music and spent her spare time playing acoustic, electric and steel guitar. She studied Tae Kwon Do, earning various belts and has broken many boards as proof she was for real. Her favorite martial artist was Bruce Lee.

She was generous and caring throughout her life and will be truly missed.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents Collie D. and Lila G. Osborne, and her brother Earl Osborne. She is survived by her son, Victor Suarez and granddaughters Anaya Suarez and Amara Suarez, Atlanta; her brothers, Garland Osborne, and John Osborne (Crystal), Denver; her sisters, Ethel Wheelock, Coleen Osborne, and LeChelle Hobley all of Denver; and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and many friends.
