Obituary for LaShorne S. Zarlengo

In 1997, as a young, single woman she was led to attend the West Coast Believers Convention; a six day and six-night intensive immersion in the Word of God. While there, she proclaimed to her friends “someday my husband, who will be a Pastor, a musician and my best friend will be here with me.” In 2000, she met Jim Zarlengo at a prophetic meeting. He said “Hello, can we go have lunch and see if we like each other because we are supposed to be married.” So, without dating, but participating in several premarital sessions, they were married. In 2002 she returned to that Convention with her husband who was a Pastor, musician and her best friend. They had returned to the Believers Convention each year through 2017. Many people called them “Double Z” because of the connectedness, and oneness. Though they came from completely different backgrounds, cultures, educations, and personalities they never had a cross word in 16 years of marriage.

LaShorne had an extensive work history. She was a successful model, but decided it was not for her. She earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology as well as her Master’s in Business Administration. She was the coordinator for the MLK Marade for two years. She was also a member of the board of Denver Works, a well-respected, non-profit organization that assisted individuals in re-entering the workforce and later became the President of that board for approximately 2 years.

After several changes throughout her career she heard the Lord speak to her to say her place was at home and in ministry. She never mentioned it to her husband, yet he told her that same week that he was led to tell her to stop working and focus on doing ministry work.

LaShorne was a Youth Ministry volunteer coordinator at Heritage Christian Center. While under the leadership of her mentor, Pastor Annette Miller she later became the Director of the Children’s Ministry and developed the curriculum and coordinated events for the ministry, which served close to 1200 children each week.

She maintained a weekly blog for 10 years designed to inspire, equip, encourage and empower women, along with her daily/weekly devotion, which she named REAL, which stands for Revealing, Encouraging, Affirming and Loving. She and Jim would often preach and teach as a team, as well as lead the Prayer Ministry for 8 years. They created the structure and curriculum and lead the training for small prayer groups, which is now known as the Kingdom Groups. Due to their spiritual growth, leadership and guidance they were in great demand to mentor pastors and leaders across the country.

She was a leader of leaders, a truly humble and giving person, always ready to love. She enjoyed laughter, taking photos, roller skating, and great conversations with her best friend and ministry partner, her husband. She loved to sing and dance and had recorded a song, “At Your Feet Lord.”

LaShorne was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Jr. and her sister, Rosie Franklin. Those left to cherish her memory are; her loving husband, Jim; her brother, Sylvester (Ardelia) Gibson; her sisters, Mae Bryant, Patricia Brown and Cheri Gibson-Brown. As well as host of nieces, nephews, Pastors and her church family and friends.
