Obituary for Bertram Bruton

BRUTON, BERTRAM A. on Friday, January, 19,
2018. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Bruton was a
graduate of the Howard University School of
Architecture. Bruton was Colorado’s first
licensed African American architect, and for
more than 50 years, Bruton & Associates
provided design services to numerous clients
including the City of Denver, Denver Public
Schools, Denver International Airport, and
University of Colorado Hospital. Bruton is
survived by Dorothy (Dottie) Bruton (wife of 48
years); daughters Michelle Bruton Brown and
Sabra Scoggins; grandchildren Dustin Caldwell,
Dani Hernandez, and Adia Brown; plus a host of
nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held
Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Caldwell Kirk,
2101 Marion St., Denver Colo., from 4 to 9 p.m.,
with a Kappa Alpha Psi burial service at 6 p.m.,
A funeral service will be held Thursday,
February 1, 2018, 11 a.m., Scott United
Methodist Church, 2880 Garfield St., Denver,
Colo. 80205.
