Obituary for Rosalind Dews

Rosalind René Dews, "Roxy" was born on September 20, 1957 to Adolph Virgil and Josephine Jenny Mae Brown in Denver, Colorado. Rosalind received her unique name meaning "beautiful rose" from her father. As the youngest of seven girls, Rosalind remained close to her mother's hip until the tender age of five when her mother suddenly passed away.

After being placed in foster care and moving from home to home, Rosalind found safety in her older sister's home; reared to be a modest young lady she learned etiquette, how to cook and the importance of education. Rosalind attended East High School where she met the love of her life shortly before transferring to Thomas Jefferson where she graduated high school in 1976.

Rosalind knew education was key and pursued a degree of social work from Colorado State University. After a successful graduation, Rosalind married J. Marvin Dews in the summer of June 28, 1980. From this union they welcomed two beautiful daughters. As an active mother in the lives of her children, she balanced a fulltime job with the Department of Corrections working as a supervisor of the Division of Adult Parole, Community Corrections and the Division of Youth Corrections. She also occasionally braided hair for those who needed that special "Roxy touch".

Rosalind was a dedicated children's church teacher who would often wake up her family with zeal and excitement to assist her with lesson planning. Always assuming responsibility for others with her giving heart, there was nothing that Rosalind wouldn't do for her family.

She loved traveling and cruising with her family annually; spending time with her grandchildren was an excitement for her. Rosalind always remained classy, stylish and top notch to those that knew her. If she felt she was having a bad hair day, there was nothing that would keep her from flying to Oklahoma City to get her hair "whipped" by her loving daughter.

Rosalind was a virtuous woman who left her print on everyone she encountered. She was proceeded in death by her parents and her four sisters; Lee Etta, Barbara Jean, Thelma, Wilma. She leaves behind to cherish her loving husband of 38 years J. Marvin Dews of Aurora; daughters Tamara R. (David) of Oklahoma City; Tanisha Y. (Alejandro) Robles Castañeda of Oklahoma City; her sisters Nellie "Bell" Dooley of Denver, Rose Ann (David) Petty of Denver, 5 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
