It is written that when life begins it is like an open book with many blank pages; each day that we live our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning.
The pages of this book began for Lawrence Edward Dawkins when he was born on February 20, 1932 to his parents, Louise Terrell and Willie Dawkins in Laurel, Mississippi.
He arrived in Denver in 1949, and completed high school at West High.
He married Ollie Ruth Brown December 1951, they purchased their first home on Milwaukee Street in 1963, where he resided until his passing.
From this union four children were born, Terrence E. Dawkins, Sandra Dulin, Valli Kay Selassie, and Shari Snead.
Ray retired from Samsonite after 30 years and spent summer after summer traveling the country in his motor-home and indulging in his favorite pastime, fishing. When his Broncos played he would throw exceptional tailgating parties; he was a die-hard fan, win or lose.
A self-proclaimed TV fanatic, he enjoyed westerns and crime shows. He loved to share his joy of :His Broncos" with all his friends and family. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren, Terrence E. Dawkins, Jr., Deanna Ulibarri Crispin, Dana Dawkins, and Courtney Dawkins-Jenkins; and his great-grands, T. Chauncey Dawkins, Jordan Dawkins, Jayse Morris, Yamiah Carroll, Taisaiah Dawkins, Donovan Jenkins, Alexander Ulibarri, Johnathan Edwards, Alyssa Ulibarri, and Addison Crespin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Ruth Dawkins; siblings, Ben, Thomas, Katherine, and Joe.
His life is being celebrated by his children, Terrence E. Dawkins, Sr., Sandra Dlin, Valli Kay Selassie (Al Combs) and Shari Snead (David Johnson); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
