Obituary for Katherine L. Murphy-Watson

Katherine was welcomed by parents Hazel and Warren H. Buckner on March 23, 1934, in Hill City, Kansas. She was the youngest sister to three siblings, Nadine, Warren, and John; all who predeceased her.
Her mother dies at a young age and Katherine was raised by her beloved father, her grandmother Katherine, and her eldest brother Warren.
She enjoyed the simple pleasures of farm life: riding horses, sledding down snowy hills, raising chickens, hogs, and cows. Katherine watched her grandmother read her bible and pray, and she was encouraged to do likewise. One day she asked her grandma, "why do you read and pray, day after day?" Ane her grandmother replied, "My child, this is how God speaks to me, and I to Him. You see, prayer is a connector to God, and studying teaches what I need to know. They go hand in hand, I'd say."
In the summer after graduating high school, Katherine met and married Lee Andrew Murphy. From their beautiful marriage came three extraordinary sons, Ricky, Broderick (deceased), and Roger. Her children were truly the joy of her life.
Katherine spent the majority of her professional life working in radiology with various physicians at Presbyterian Hospital, until she retired in 2004, after 40 years of faithful service.
Macedonia Baptist Church was Katherine's church home for 55 plus years. To the church she was a pillar through her service in the music ministry and contributions to the youth ministry newsletter. She faithfully attended the weekly prayer meeting and Saturday morning bible studies. Katherine lied by words of her grandmother from her childhood. The song "Jesus is the Center of My Joy" was an anthem of her life.
Surrounded by her loving family, Katherine walked into the Kingdom of God on October 19, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by sons Ricky L. Murphy and Roger R. Murphy, grandchildren Kyle, Dominique, Danielle, Derek, and Ryan; sister-in-law Janice Buckner, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
