Obituary for Dean G. Griffin

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, Dean Garnett Griffin, loving father, husband, and grandfather transitioned at the age of 81, with his family by his side. He was born on April 26, 1937, in Malvern, Arkansas. He attended and graduated from Wilson High School in Malvern and Philander Smith College in Little Rock. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Patricia Hart. They had two sons, Alec Blair and Lance Mandell. They were happily married for 17 years, until her transition in 1976.
Dean Spent 22 years in the U.S. Army and served in both the Vietnam, and Korean Wars. He also served as a medic with the Apollo Space mission charged with the astronaut’s health examinations upon their return from their mission.
Dean and Barbara were married July 12, 1980, and Dean gained his bonus children Karen, Brett, Tanoa, and Nikki. They were married at the time of his transition.
Dean treasured the great outdoors. He was an avid fisher, hunter and he enjoyed spending hot, summer days outdoors with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Patricia, his four brothers (nephew) and a sister. He leaves behind his two sons, Alec and Lance, his wife Barbara, and his bonus children Karen Brooks, Brett Jones, Tanoa Poirier (Robert), and Nikki Trammell (Sean), and many grandchildren and great-grands.
