Thella (Stella) Mae Irene Barber (Hendricks) was born on March 31, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, to her parents Isaac Barber and Irene Mingo. She grew up in Northeast Denver, and was raised by Minnie Ola and King David Webb, they were her mother and father. She was also raised with her cousins Vera Mae Jenkins, and Sheila Mingo. She received her formal education in Denver, where she graduated from East High School in 1968. She furthered her education by attending Auraria Community College, and she also earning her master's degree from Kaplan University in Information Technology in 2006.
On October 13, 1967, Stella united in holy matrimony to the former Jay F. Hendricks. To this union, a baby daughter, they named Shakira was born. With this union of marriage, he became the step-father of Octavia and Kimmy. The family shared many happy and memorable moments together. This marriage was later dissolved but she and Jay remained in close contact with each other over the years, until Jay departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on June 16, 2015, in Denver, Colorado.
Stella was later blessed with six grandchildren, Joséf, Darjae, Larry, Monté, Aviance, and Kelisha; and ten great grandchildren, Joséf, Jr., Jourdyn, Siriyan, Jamal, Jayden, Zytaevius, Markell, Malik, Marquis and Romel who were all an additional source of love and joy in her life. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she enjoyed a good game of bid whist. She loved cooking for her family during the holidays and special occasions. They lovingly called her "granny" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments they all shared together.
Stella worked as an Office Manager for Hunt Electric for 12 years. She is best remembered as a hardworking, very dedicated employee.
A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Stella was a member of Greater St. John Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Perry.
Stella was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, and spending time with her grand/great children, watching law & order on television. Her closest friends, Veda Fisher and Carol Britton will miss the camaraderie's they all shared together and the fact that she was a true and trusted friend.
Stella Mae Irene Hendricks departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on April 9, 2017, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory include 3 daughters; Octavia D. (G. Royce) Reed of Orlando, FL; Kimmy D. Barber of Aurora, CO; Shakira Hendricks of Atlanta, GA; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins other relative and many friends.
