Joanne Smith was born on November 6, 1940 in Amarillo, Texas to Bert Dotson and Willie Mae Dotson, the oldest of eight children. Her siblings: Freddie Johnson, Jimmy, Arthur Bell, Robert, Linda, Timothy and David.
As a child Joanne loved to dance and sing, eat clay, dirt, and starch; and everybody loved her receipt for potato salad.
Joanne was married to Hershel Hamilton and Gerald Smith. From these unions three daughters were born: Debra Hamilton, Kia Hamilton and Chrystal Smith.
Joanne was educated in public schools. She worked as a homemaker, day care provider and housekeeper. She loved to decorate.
Joanne studied with Jehovah's witnesses and became a baptized witness. Her favorite song was, Keep Your Eyes on the Prize.
Joann passed away on the April 27, 2017 in Denver. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters: Debra and Chrystal; grandchildren: Kellen Hamilton and Keisha Lewis; great grandson Jaylen Hamilton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Joanne was loved by everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, her daughter Kia, and her husband Gerald Smith.
