Obituary for William "Bill" Coleman

William Coleman, Jr., 84, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, with family surrounding him. He was born August 12, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to the late Cora and William Coleman. He was the only boy with two older sisters, Corrine Washington and Imogene Bailey.

He accepted the Lord at an early age and attended Shorter African Methodist Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. Bill attended Bromwell Elementary and Morey Middle School where he participated in Baseball and Swimming. Then he went to South High School where he joined the track team and was known as a “Swell guy”.

After high school, he was drafted into the United States Air Force and trained as a Radio Operator in Biloxi, Mississippi. Bill was stationed in Germany for four years as a Radio Operator. He was honorably discharged in 1956, and returned home to Denver, CO.

As a member of Shorter AME Church, William rekindled his friendship with Ruby Kate Oliver and the two were married in 1958. To that union three children were born: Ruth, Gary and Terri.

Bill always had a technical mind, which lead to employment at Martin Marietta for 17 years as an Electronic Developer. Continuing his interest in Electronics, Bill attended the Community College of Denver, where he earned his Associate Degree in Electronics Technology. He later transitioned to IBM as a Copier Specialist where he retired after 16 years.

William always had a natural and friendly personality and was loved by many. He loved watching the home teams, especially his favorite, The Denver Broncos.

William is survived by his wife, Ruby Coleman; children, Ruth, Gary and Terri; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

A tribute to our father who was an outstanding provider, tradesman, father, grandfather, mentor, leader, disciplinarian, and teacher of life.
