Obituary for Charles Steven Boyce

Charles Steven Boyce was born March 6, 1949 in Salem, New Jersey. He was the eldest child to Mamie Sistrunk and Granville Alexander Boyce, Sr., with siblings Amy Beth, Granville Alexander Jr. and Keith Andre’ Boyce.

He received his high school diploma from Salem High in 1967. He then entered the United States Air Force in 1968. Charles earned the rank of Sergeant and was an aircraft mechanic. Charles served his country in the Vietnam War. He remained in the Air Force until 1978.

While serving in the Air Force he met his good friends Deacon Elzey and Steven Brown. Charles later met Kwane’ Lamb and they were the best of friends.

As a young boy Charles enjoyed his position as little league catcher. In high school he was enthusiastic about wrestling. While in the Air Force he became an accomplished boxer; winning many matches and receiving numerous titles and trophies.

In 1969, while stationed in Clovis, New Mexico Charles met Emmogene Walton at a Martha Reeves and the Vandellas concert on the Eastern New Mexico University campus in Portales, New Mexico. They dated for two years and were married on January 8, 1972, at Scotts United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado.

To this union were born two beautiful daughters, Chanel Elaine and Andrea Petryce. Charles and Emmogene knew their daughters would be very lucky in life, Chanel was born November 11, 1972 (11/11) and Andrea was born July 7, 1975 (7/7). Unfortunately, this union was dissolved in 1986.
Through the years Charles continued his education at Community College of Denver earning certificates in Assistant Accounting Technician and Computerized Accounting. While he was a student he was involved in various organizations and received honors for being the Secretary of Student Leadership, Most Dedicated and Outstanding Student, Outstanding and Resourceful Student and was recognized for asking the Best Questions.

Charles was raised in a God fearing home. That foundation led him back to the Lord and his Eldership in 2010 with the Bethel Church of God In Christ.

Charles will be remembered by his daughters for their nick names CB2 aka “Double Digit Midget” and Big A aka “Huggy Kissy Baby”. Charles will also be remembered by his close friends for his big breakfast, knowledge of boxing and his infamous “Spaghetti”. Charles will be dearly missed by many.

Charles is survived by his two daughters Chanel Elaine Dixon and Andrea Petryce Scott, ex-wife Emmogene Walton Boyce, brothers Granville, Jr. and Keith Boyce, grandchildren, Relon and Haven Scott; Carl Jr. and Ciara Dixon; Devoted friends Deacon Elzey, Steven Brown and Kwane’ Lamb and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
