Obituary for Carlyle W. Stanley, Jr.

Carlyle W. Stanley, Jr. was born on January 29, 1944 in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Carlyle W. Stanley, Sr. and Sarah B. Stanley-Warden. He was raised by Luther W. Warden surrounded by his three sisters, Sylvia, Sarah and April. Carlyle was affectionately called “Butch” by his family and friends.
He received his formal education at Manual High School, where he was a member of the track and field team. Butch received several medals and awards for track and field, breaking a number of records in all events.
On April 22, 2016, Carlyle entered into holy matrimony with Carlotta Lynette Price. Carlotta and Carlyle were united in marriage after knowing and caring for one another for more than 30 years. He loved her unconditionally.
Carlyle joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. He became a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigrade, also being an expert pistol and rifleman.
Carlyle was a professional chef for fifty years. He worked at several nursing homes and hospitals, including twenty years that was spent at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston, MA. He worked several years for the Denver Health and Hospitals, and eventually retired for the Denver County Jail where he was the Head Cook, preparing meals for the prison guards.
He participated in “100 Men Who Cook, Inc.” which is dedicated to supporting Denver’s youth by helping non-profit organizations. His main dish was peach cobbler which was a favorite of his family. Carlyle was a current member of the Manual Thunderbolt Committee whose responsibility is the class reunions, fundraisers, dances and picnics.
He was a die-hard Bronco fan that decorated his bathroom in Bronco memorabilia. He enjoyed playing the weekly football pools, gambling in Blackhawk and yearly trips to Las Vegas. His collections included G.I Joes, old classic cars and shot glasses from all over the world.
As a man of faith and belief in the Lord, Carlyle became a member of The Potter’s House Church of Denver, formerly known as Heritage Christian Center. He volunteered in the food bank ministry. He formerly attended St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the men’s choir.
Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Stanley-Warden and Carlyle Stanley, Sr.; brother, Warren Stanley and sister, Paula Stark
Carlyle will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carlotta Stanley; children, Otho Price, Camille Williams (Charles), Christopher Johnson (LaDavia); god-daughter, Sherrie Douglas; last but not least his two (four legged) children, Rusty and CiCi; sisters, Sylvia Joyce Hill of Denver, CO, Sarah Cummings-Grant (Jonathan) of Boston, MA, Lillian April Walker (Less, Jr.), Diena Threats, and Penny Stark, all of Denver, CO; brother, Bobbie Stark of Denver, CO; nieces and nephews, Kim Williams, Delphine Cleveland, Kevin Lynch, Reggie Cummings (Ayesha), Bryce Cummings, Alan McClinton (Sandra), Andre Winn, Karen Walker, Fred Cummings, Less Walker !!!, Robyn Rich and Jamye Hill; eight grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
