Obituary for Carletta Yvonne Moore

Carletta Yvonne Lucas Moore died peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 96.

Carletta was born on April 2, 1921 in Cooper, Texas to Tillman Lucas and Jewell Bates. She shared a special bond with her only sibling, younger brother Willie D. Lucas. She graduated from the public schools in Cooper, and attended Butler College in Tyler, Texas. She married Andrew Floyd Moore, Sr. on March 6, 1940. To this union there were three children, Andrew Floyd, Jr., Mamie Jewell and Ronald Ray. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1952 where they began a new life. She was employed with Denver Public Schools in the 1960s and retired in 1986.

To know Carletta is to know that she was well-read. Her library of books is indication of her passion for knowledge. She also enjoyed a good crossword puzzle, easy or hard, she would dig in and complete them. She even worked the challenging New York Times puzzles. When visiting her home, you would find a large jigsaw puzzle on her dining room table that she would invite you to help put together. Carletta had a passion for cooking and a green thumb, often cooking with the vegetables she planted in her gardens. She enjoyed playing the piano and she played at her family church. At one point, she played behind her husband at various events while he would sing great songs like Old Man River, Stardust and more. Finally, there's no way to remember Carletta without remembering her love for her dogs, Murgatroyd, Jabar, Scheherazade (Sherrie), Robespierre (Foodah), Holli, and Linus.

Carletta’s father, mother, and brother preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Andrew Floyd Moore, Jr. (Brenda), Mamie Jewell Moore, Ronald Ray Moore (Lenora) all of Denver, her two sisters in-love Verline Gant of Denver, CO and Patsy Lucas of Lancaster, TX, two grandchildren, three great-grand children, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
