Edward Jewel Garner was born October 5, 1942 to Mr. Lamar Garner Sr. and Bobbie Ella Garner, in San Augustine, Texas. He departed from this earth on Sunday, November 4, 2012.

Edward J. Garner graduated and attended public school in San Augustine, Texas. Immediately
after graduating for Lincoln High School in San Augustine he attended Prairie View A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree.

He was united in holy matrimony to Velvia Taylor Garner and they were graciously blessed with three children, Angela Nadine, Tonia, and Edward Garner.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his loving memories, his devoted wife Velvia Garner (affectionately known as "Smooth"); daughters Angela Nadine Garner, Tonia Garner and son Edward Garner and daughter-in-law Colleen. He is survived by two sisters: Frances Louise Cotton ( Rev, R.L. Cotton), of Nacogdoches, Texas and Bobbie Jo Garner, of San Augustine, Texas, Betty Garner, sister-in-law of Rochester, New York. He is the grandfather of Raymond Washington, Jr. and Edward Garner, Jr.: great grandfather of Tatum Elizabeth Washington: a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lamar and Bobbie Ella Garner, brothers, Emerson Garner, Sanford Garner, and Lamar Garner, Jr.
